title: Non Stop Pop
purpose:
The primary purpose of my magazine is to inform people in Hertfordshire about musicians who live/grown up in Hertfordshire so we can support local musicians. and to attract people the POP scene in Hertfordshire. , it will tell people about the younger and upcoming artists within their area. Most importantly, it will tell the readers about the best music venues near to them so that they can get more involved in their music and see it all live.
This is important as if more information and artists and known in the pop scene it will become increasingly popular as it will appeal to new people.
competition

The magazine will face competition from other larger magazines BBC Music Magazine, Mojo, Rolling Stone and Clash. However – these larger magazines do not have a focus on Hertfordshire so this would give our music magazine a USP for sales in the local Hertfordshire area as it will make readers feel attached and included in the magazine as they can partake in the activities offered and will probably have met the local artists who are featured within the magazine.
The magazine may however face local competition from local news magazines and newspapers especially when there is a large music event coming up in the local area – such as Slam Dunk at Hatfield House where most local newspapers create a story promoting it. The magazine may face competition from Welwyn Hatfield Times, Hertfordshire Life, Hertfordshire Living and The Comet. Again – I feel that because the magazine focuses on a specific aspect of living in Hertfordshire (the music offering) readers will still be drawn in with the USP of that and ensure that competition is relatively low for the magazine.
The magazine may also face competition from the internet with many events being posted online so people do not have to purchase or subscribe to a magazine simply to receive information on local events coming up. Many local artists will also post on social media on what they’ve been getting up to so again this may be more appealing than having to purchase a magazine. As with all print media as soon as the magazine is published it is going to already be out of date whereas the internet and social media changes all of the time. I feel the internet is going to be the biggest competition for the magazine but still feel as the fact the magazine is going to contain professionally written articles and possibly exclusive content to the magazine it is going to still appeal to a large amount of people.
Form and genre of the product:
The genre of this magazine will be pop. I chose pop as Research shows that the large majority of Hertfordshire download and stream music, but this magazines USP is that there aren't currently any rival magazines which are purely based around the genre of pop in Hertfordshire. As well as this, there are a lot of clubs in Hertfordshire that play drill music meaning that people who go there are aware of pop music and would be likely to be interested in buying a magazine based on this genre.
My magazine will be in 3 different forms print based, online and app this is because it will give the majority of people a way to access my magazine. the print and online copy of my magazine would be
£3.99 and will be issued every 2 weeks
My app would cost £1.99 with a running subscription cost of £1.49 a week until cancellation
the annual cost of my print based magazine would be only £96 this is good as lots of other magazines charge much higher.
this is a good price as my target audience is 18-22 and they will have enough money to afford this because most of them would start getting jobs
Target audience
The primary target audience for this magazine will be males between the ages of 18-25. This is because they tend to enjoy this type of more genre of music and they are also able to attend a lot of the concerts put on by artist. also men between these ages is when people begin to broaden their taste in music so if they didn't like POP before they might now
l
The secondary target audience for my pop magazine would be females between the ages of 15-25. this is because a lot of females also enjoy pop music im also targeting mainly over 18 as they can attend the music venues and concerts
content
I would advertise local musicians in the area of Hertfordshire. this would show people in the area the talent in Hertfordshire the benefit of having an individual artist as it would appeal to a certain genre of music as well as the area that the artist was brought up in. I would have a double page spread on a different artist every 4 weeks. Within my double page spread, I will include an update on the artists week and if they have released any music. I will also include an interview with the artist this would include information on the artist week and information about any new songs. I would also include there Spotify scan code so everyone can easily access there songs.
on my double page spread it will include information such as the artist height age etc and it will also include a top 10 list of their songs.
my magazine would also include a bunch of new songs that have been released recently so people can find a new artist they might enjoy. I would also include a chart showing the monthly ranking of the top 10 most played songs
i will use bright colors such as these because it will sand out to other magazines as the colours our very bright. My target audience is also quite young so bright colours will appeal to them
i am using hummer miller font for my main text as it looks very professional and looks a bit hand written so its like the interviewer has written what the artist was saying straight into the magazine. it is also really easy to read
for my article I will have an interview with an artist and ask them questions about what songs they will be realising and i will also have a q/a with them submitted by the fans of my magazine these questions could include everyday life conversations or any questions that could cause drama.
my title font is bulletto killa as it looks very professional and its clear to read . and hummer miller as
my main text font

resources
For my magazine I will need a variety of Resources & Personnel to be used in order to ensure that it is a success. So - the people I will need to be part of the team is a Social Media Manager who will create content online through social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Twitter and Facebook to appeal to the target audience and will also advertise the magazine through these platforms. We will also need 2 Editors who will pull all of the content together and place it within the magazine to ensure that it is meeting with the brand standards (house style, fonts, wording etc...). They will use specialist software for creating a magazine. I will also need two Writers / Journalists who will write the content for the magazine throughout the production phase and will also go out to report on venues, bands and people to create content for the magazine to ensure that the magazine is always going to contain exclusive content and interviews within it.
We will also need a Photographer who is going to take pictures for use within the magazine - so will usually attend with a Journalist when they go out to interview or visit a band / venue to take supporting images to be used alongside the article. We will also need a Graphic Designer who will work with the Editors to ensure that the magazine is following brand standards and the house style is met - they will also use the specialist magazine publishing software to create the magazine. A researcher is also going to be important as they will be able to research content to include in the magazine such as the events for the Event Calendar page included within the magazine and will also allow content to still be produced without a Journalist having to go out and conduct their own content.
Computers are going to be needed to run the software needed for the team to use such as publishing software, editing software etc... Supporting peripherals are also needed for this - monitor, mouse and a keyboard. A camera is also going to be needed for the Photographer to take their images with and supporting accessories will be needed such as a tripod and a SD card in order to allow for the images to be stored on and then extracted from this to be displayed on the magazine.
InDesign is going to be essential for putting the magazine together to allow the Editors and Graphic Designer to create the magazine successfully. InDesign is publishing software specialized for magazines so is perfect for the team to use and to create the magazine each month. Photoshop is also going to be essential for editing the images that the photographer is going to take to ensure they are fit for use and can be aesthetic to go with the modern, smooth feel of the magazine.
To save a large sum of money, all of these jobs will be taken by interns. This will make the whole creation process a lot cheaper and will give me a good start on finance. The model job will be done by music artist that I'm publishing so they will do it for free anyway.
marketing methods:
Website - A website can be very helpful when marketing because most teenagers and most of society today own or have access to the internet so by having a way of online marketing, it can stretch out the exposure of the magazine to a lot more people.: and its suitable as my target audience frequently use my audience
Supermarkets - We will give supermarkets a small amount of copies to sell at the beginning, while we are still gaining popularity this is because everyone goes in supermarkets and they might find our magazine appealing , and then after this they will begin to sell more copies of the magazine.
Social media account - By having a social media account, it can be an easy way to spread awareness of the magazine. This can be done by posting pictures of the magazine and giving it suitable hashtags or trending hashtags so that people will be more interested in it.
Posters - Putting posters on bus stops, near collages or on walls will help to market the magazine as people regularly walk past these places on a daily bases and will most likely stop and read the poster about my magazine.
i would use social media as its completely free and my target audience are the primary audience of social media so it will attract the correct audience. tiktok is perfect as our magazine will end up on there FYP if they watch or like content similar to our magazine. you can also easily engage with customers so you can offer great customers maybe leading to repeat purchases i will also have specific people to run the account so they are always posting good content that will help our brand grow
distribution:
My magazine is going to be distributed to a variety of retailers in order for physical copies to be sold - these can include Local Corner Shops, WHSmith, Morrisons, Tesco etc... These will only be sold in local stores based in the Hertfordshire area to ensure the right people are being reached. My magazine is also going to be. An important distribution source is going to be to on-site university shops at the University of Hertfordshire in order to appeal to students to encourage them to purchase the magazine and appreciate the Student Life section designed for students enrolled at University of Hertfordshire as everyone who goes there is in my target audience so it will be very beneficial for all of them to see my magazine
i will also distribute them at music venues as it has pages telling you where the best places to go to watch live music is so everyone at the venues will probably be intrestred in other places and this will also be free
In conclusion my magazine will have a bright colours to fit in with the pop style it will also be suitable for our target audience as they have bright colours and this will appeal to the young target audience.
my magazine will also have a modern feel and be appealing to my target audience. my magazine will be successful because it has a wide variety of content based purely on Hertfordshire so everyone would find it unique. It also includes an opportunity to win so some people might just purchase the magazine for that.
