leaning outcome 1 (U21): be able to generate ideas for an original media product based on a client brief

from the client brief i am required to create some sample pages from the first edition of the magazine I am also required to showcase the music in Hertfordshire. the client has also told me i need to have an online and print copy of the magazine the final requirement is to include a double page spread and a front cover .

because I need an online copy and a print based copy i will need to make i have 2 different quality images for the magazine this is because an online copy image only  need 72 dpi as that would look good on screen however the print based one will need 360 dpi as the print based will need to be high quality.

I would make my magazine appeal to younger people (16-26) as I think a lot of the older people wouldn't enjoy the newer genre of music as they would probably prefer classical music or older musicians like Elvis. because my target audience is young adults i would have a brighter coloutr scheme as it would attract them more.

Idea 1:

i would call this magazine " Hertfordshire tunes"

one idea i have for my music magazine would be is i would advertise local musicians in the area of Hertfordshire. this would show people in the area the talent in Hertfordshire  the benefit of having an individual artist as it would appeal to a certain genre of music as well as the area that the artist was brought up in. I would charge around £3.49 for my magazine i would have it at £3.49 instead of £3.50 as this has a physiological affect making our brains think it as a lot cheaper.

one example of a music artist from Hertfordshire is a rapper called "Fredo"
he is a very talented artist with quite a big fan base however not everyone knows he lived in Hertfordshire and this could make people start to watching him.
i would have a double page spread on a different artist every 4 weeks.
my target audience for this magazine would be 16-21 as they our most interested in this genre of music. my secondary audience would be teenage girls as they could find the musicians attractive a listen to his music because of that.
my  The tertiary target audience would be older people who are against this sort of music. This would effect them as they would be very opposed to the magazine as they would not like to hear some of the language the rappers use. they might also not understand the slang used in the song so it wouldn't appeal to them. Within my double page spread, I will include an update on the artists week and if they have released any music. I will also include an interview with the artist. i would also include there Spotify scan code so everyone can easily access there songs.

I would use a font that's usually used on the music videos for this category of music
as it will be unique to our magazine

strength and weaknesses

some strengths of this idea is that people who like that genre of music or people who do the same thing as Fredo would be really interested in our magazine and would want to buy it so they can find out about the artist lives as fredo has a very interesting life for eg he has been to prison and grew up in gangs. it could also attract people who are exploring different genres and wants to know where to start.

one weakness is that The weaknesses of doing a magazine based on a solo artist is that not everyone will know who the artist is, therefore lowing the overall interest rate altogether. also some artist of this genre break the law and could be arrested and not be available to do the interview another reason is this genre only a small amount of people listen to it (however its growing)  another weakness is that his songs promote violence and some parents wouldn't let there children read the magazine making us lose on potential customers.

idea 2:
i would call this idea " festival extreme"
another idea for my magazine is showing the festivals that are happening in Hertfordshire The strengths of doing a magazine based around a particular venue, is that there would be large amount of people who live near the area that are interested in that particular magazine. and informative for people who love going to musical festivals so showing them ones in the area local to them would really appeal to them.

I would have a list of venues that are in the local area I would have picture of the main venue I would have is standon calling this is because it is a family event so it would attract to all age group's. I would also have many other festivals that are occurring in the local area.
I would have a different festival on each page with the biggest and most popular festival being put on a double page spread. my target audience for this idea is 18-25 as most festivals are fun and contain a lot of drinking, it would also appeal to all genders as they play a range of music everyone will like it. my secondary audience would be family's looking for a fun place to go as some of the festival's like standon calling are family friendly.

my magazine would have a bright colour scheme with yellow lines on it as this will remind people of the yellow strobe lights commonly used at festival's. i would use the font Merriweather as its unique and looks professional so when people see the font it will remind them of our magazine.

i would charge £4.99 for my magazine how ever there will be a permanent deal saying it £3.99 this would make people buy it as they will see its on sale for cheaper and buy it. this is using physiological marketing strategies to get people to buy it

strengths and weakness:

some strengths of this idea is that festival's in the UK are very popular this would make my magazine a really great seller in shops as many people want to find out about the festivals taking place in the local area as theres only a couple really heard about (reading Glaston bury ).

some weakness of this idea is that festival's are only seasonal and wouldn't take place in winter because of this our magazine would only be able to have content for around 6 months of the year meaning none would be brought during the other 6 months. another weakness is that accessibility would be an issue for some people this would make are target audience a bit lower. the final weakness is most of the festival's you have to be over 18 and a lot of festival's take place outside of Hertfordshire.

idea 3:

for my finale idea i would promote music venues in Hertfordshire this would show all the people in Hertfordshire the places they can go to listen to music and eat or drink at the same time. this idea would work as not many people know where the music venues are in Hertfordshire. This idea would also raise money for the musician as people could tip them if there performance is really good. It also raises money for the venue owner as the artist pays money to be able to play there. This idea will allow the artist to gain popularity as more people find out about them. I would call this magazine" Music sanctuary"

i would distribute them every 4 weeks to show everyone what the up coming venues are for that month so people have enough time to book work off and make planes to arrive at the event. I would charge around £3.49 for my magazine i would have it at £3.49 instead of £3.50 as this has a physiological affect making our brains think it as a lot cheaper.

the colour scheme would be black with purple this is because it would stand out and would be gender neutral with the colours. I would have white font on the black background as its really easy to read meaning people even with less than average eye sight shouldn't struggle to read it
i would have all of the body text in aerial font as it very easy to read and looks professional however the font of the title for each venue would be different depending on the genre being played their. For example if it was playing rock it would look like this

strengths and weakness;

some strengths of this idea are that the musician's at the venues will all play different genres of music this means my magazine would appeal to everyone as it will appeal to everyone's taste of music. Another strength is that not many people know where music venues are in Hertfordshire as very few are promoted this means the market isn't saturated meaning my magazine would be one of a kind so more people buy it.
the music venues are also not seasonal so we will have content all year round

some weakness our that some people hate to hear music whilst there drinking or eating with there friends/family so this wouldn't appeal to them. also accessibility could be an issue in some venues so some people would not buy the magazine because of that.

in conclusion i chose idea number 1 for my magazine as i believe it will have the most success as there is not many venues and festivals in London to make a magazine about. idea one will also have the biggest target audience.
